In comparing two articles which attempt to account for "sex discrimination" (Glick et al., 1988) and "gender recognition" (Rabow & Wolfinger, 1997), I will be focusing here on the ways psychological research has developed its own conceptual operationalization for identity categories. 1635 Sexuality as a Site of Power and Politics. Foucault's basic thesis was that sexuality has been historically constructed by "sexologists" who have attempted to make sexuality their own privileged center of knowledge. Foucault's views were connected to the issue of sexuality being the site of power in the sense that it brought to light that sexuality in general was defined by certain forces. The interest of this paper is how these forces have shaped sexual identity in the context of sexual inequality. Thus, while Foucault concentrated on how society historically tried to define the "abnormality" in sexuality, this paper's interest in the connected issue of how these forces simultaneously worked to disempower women for the sake of exploitation. 5 pgs. 8 f/c. 3b.

This paper will discuss the use of the word "tolerance", in the contexts of understanding the history of sexuality, and how it is enmeshed with constructs of deviance. This paper will argue that while some state-level changes are being made with respect to the human rights of gays and lesbians, micro-social backlash continues to flourish. The ongoing struggle for equality and recognition for and of gays and lesbians is lodged in-between the legal and the moral codes of dominant society in such a way that while legal rights are implemented, moral panic is rising in relation to the changes being instituted. 8 pgs. 14 f/c. 7b.

The evolution of a species, any species involves the complicated process of procreating, dealing with each other, and evolving in a manner that helps sustain life not diminish it. The questions that scientists ask about sex and behavior and evolution go to the heart of what makes us who we are. Nature is not perfect but it is clever. The study of sex and evolution has a great deal to tell us about how we have become what we have become.
